Charles B. Brooks — The Short Version
Charles B. Brooks was a Black inventor who, in 1896, invented the self-propelled street sweeper truck — transforming urban sanitation from slow, manual labor into a mechanized system capable of keeping entire cities clean. Before Brooks, city streets were swept by hand — filthy, slow, and never adequate. His invention is the foundation of every clean city street on earth today.
